Frodo found himself walking with Gandalf. 'This is the Hall of Fire' said the wizard. 'Here you will hear many songs and tales - if you can keep awake. But except on high days it usually stands empty and quiet, and people come here who wish for peace, and thought.' The Fellowship of the Ring, Book II, Chapter 1 Many Meetings.

Welcome to the TheOneRing.net's Hall of Fire! Like its namesake from Lord of the Rings, the Hall is for storytelling, lore-study and discussion.

Each weekend, we gather to discuss (and occasionally argue!) over the topic of the week. And whether it's debating the pros and cons of Peter Jackson's films, going into the Silmarillion in depth, or simply sharing our ideas about why we love Tolkien and LoTR, you're more than welcome to come along and join in!

We also occasionally have special guests drop in for extended Q&A sessions - so keep an eye out for announcements about those!

Hall of Fire currently is held every weekend on alternating Saturdays and Sundays, with chats lasting anywhere between 45 minutes and an hour and a half depending on the topic. You can check out the start times over on the right, and if it's not listed for your timezone, drop us a line and we'll help you out.

Where do I go to join in?
Hall of Fire chats happen on irc.theonering.net - the TORn IRC server - in the channel (or room) #thehalloffire. If you're an IRC newbie, you can easily jump on via our
java chat client that works inside your web browser. Simply choose #thehalloffire on the drop down box, enter a nick and you'll be in the channel within seconds!

Alternatively, you can install a dedicated IRC program such as mIRC. To find out more about using mIRC to connect to the TORn IRC server, check out these instructions.

Submit a topic idea
If you have a burning desire to discuss something in Hall of Fire, drop us a line with your topic at halloffire@theonering.net.
If we like it, we'll probably give it a run in the coming weeks - you
might even be invited to guest moderate the session!

Our discussion guidelines
TheOneRing.net's chatrooms are a place for good conversation about J.R.R. Tolkien's works. We welcome you to our community and ask that you, and all guests, abide by these simple guidelines:

Please be specific to Hall of Fire: Each session focuses on a particular topic, and people understandably get confused and annoyed when someone drops in and asks something totally off topic. We also request you don't use sounds, actions or scripts while Hall of fire is in sesion.

Please be courteous. Boorish behavior will not be tolerated, and we request you do not swear, curse, or harass other guests.

Think before you "speak". Use common sense - this is a world-wide chat, between many cultures and age levels.

Please respect others and their ideas. Be friendly and patient with each other. After all, we are just having fun!

No bots, spamming or flooding! No image banners or advertisements for other sites are permitted.

The op is always right! If your behavior or language is deemed inappropriate by an op, you will be warned or even removed from the room. Frequent violations may result in you being banned from the channel or even the server.
